Title: New G/R test notes
Post by: AL-Bob on July 17, 2025, 08:41:20 am
Coming up this weekend in the RCNA auction:

G/R 0067973 LCG 67PPQ
G/R 0067974 LCG 67PPQ

Curious why they would be selling two back-to-back.  Are these part of a larger run?  Anyone planning on bidding?

I asked Marc at TCNC the very same question while previewing some auction lots at the RCNA.  He said that the consigner had only these two G/R notes and didn't realize they were test notes until the auction house pointed it out.

This is a similar happy story to the fellow who found out his mother's Bird series $5 was a GOGO test note.

I believe bidding on both G/R's was reasonable but not overdone.   Perhaps bidders were cautious, given your concern, and only willing to pay for "nice Unc" rather than bid up to a silly 67 number on a plastic holder.

These new notes expand the population of G/Rs and fills out a full grade range from VG to Unc.  It will be interesting to see what Charlton does in the next edition.
