Hello all,
I am newer here. My name is Riley, and I am from Texas and in my early 20s. I am a collector that focuses on British Empire/Commonwealth, so I have a lot of Canadian, among other things. I have been collecting for almost 10 years now.
I wanted to show off all of my 1923 series DOC notes. I have almost every seal color for the $1... but I think the purple seal will be out of my range for a bit. I am looking to upgrade my green seal here eventually, as it is in the worst condition of them all.
I also have two different seal colors for the $2. Hopefully I can add more seal color varieties there.
Does anyone have any more information on why there are different seal colors? I don't see it being repeated on the 1924 $5 or on any other previous issues.
Thanks for any information in advance, and I hope to learn and gain new knowledge from y'all (yes, we do say "y'all" a lot here...).

Hello,
The best investment you can make is to buy a copy of the Charlton Standard Catalogue of Canadian Government Paper Money. It has a detailed explanation of each issue and it covers everything.

Hello RiHa,
A great free site for you is from the Saskatoon Coin Club where large colour images show all varieties of 1923 notes. This award winning site receives many millions of visits and you will see why.
Other Dominion note issues are here as well along with the Bank of Canada series starting in 1935 to modern notes. A fellow named Jim put a lot of work into this site and he has done a great job.

The 2025 Edition is now available from the Charlton Press and Lighthouse Canada. Anyone have one yet to advise if there have been many changes?

As far as your question .... (http://Does anyone have any more information on why there are different seal colors? I don't see it being repeated on the 1924 $5 or on any other previous issues.) I don't think seal colours in Canada mean the same as seal colours in the US, but I bet @AL-Bob does and wonder if he might chime in?

Hello all,
Thank you for the information and for the welcome.
I am curious: does anyone have both DC-25E and DC-25I in their collection? The photos on saskatooncoinclub that was recommended in the conversation makes it look like the bronze seals are two different shades. Does anyone know if this is true or not?
Trying to see if thats another one i need to keep an eye out for lol
Are there any other instances with any other colors of the seals where the "same" seal color from a later group is slightly different in color?
Thanks, everyone.

I wasn't aware of different shades of Bronze seal. There are lots of photos to browse right here though.

Your 1923 collection is off to a nice start!

Thank you,
I think it is just age. Like how some of the photos of the black seals (on SCC) have more of a brown tone, while later ones look darker. Probably just age and how each note was preserved.
Thank you. I am hoping to upgrade my green seal note here soon on the $1 and will keep a lookout on the $2... I definitely can't afford a purple seal $1 or the $5 anytime soon.
Though I love the 1924 $5 with HM Queen Mary. It is such an elegant note IMO. So beautiful with her wearing all her jewelry and a beautiful tiara.
Thank you everyone for the wonderful welcome!

You're still young. I couldn't afford those notes either when I was in my early 20s. These notes aren't going anywhere and if anything, prices are going down over time. Use them as motivation to work on your career and circle back in 10 years if you have to. I'm sure you'll get there!

That is true, and I hope prices do go down. If I focused only on Canada, I'd probably have more... lol. But I focus on all British Empire... so there's a lot that I have.
Thanks again!
