July 7th mail call:
Today, a package containing some circulated notes that I bought online finally arrived. Normally, I would not buy notes that are of such low grade, however…
In the lot, there were some interesting notes:
A 1937 $100 with a bank account number and the date 5\19\1992. It’s astonishing that a 1937 $100 would have been deposited in 1992 but it was most likely part of an estate distribution and the recipient considered the note to be “just $100” rather than a collectible.
The next note is a 1954 $1 signed by Willie Mosconi, the billiards champion. The note is signed Beattie/Rasminsky with engraved signatures so the note must have been printed after 1968 up to 1971.
The next note, also 1954 is inscribed “April 19th/70 To Sally— Many thanks for making Colmburgh so memorable. Affectionately Ron”.
Colmburgh, according to Google is a town in Germany.
Finally, there is this 1954 $10 note with the “pink stamp of death” on it. Unfortunately, the ink is so badly run that a date and transit number is illegible. One can barely make out “Bank of Montreal”…
Again, it’s amazing that a 1954 $10 note survived well into the 1980s and possibly into the 1990s when this pink bank stamp was in use.
Enjoy!
