November 7th:

A "Where's Willy?" record?

Recently, I was notified that a banknote that I entered into the Where's Willy site had been found...23 years, 166 days, 19 hours and 46 minutes later!

Check it out!

November 8th:
Some interesting notes repatriated from the UK.

There were a few interesting notes in the hoard that my friend brought back from the UK.

This 1973 $1 has a faintly written note in pencil: “Der(Ger) Man Queen”

The second 1973 $1 has the “pink stamp of death” that is very blurry.  I think it says “The Bank of Nova Scotia” and the year 1990.  The rest of the date is illegible.

This sun scorched 1971 $10 has been autographed by several people as a good luck note.
“Good Luck Hank”. “Best Wishes” and “Brother” are all I can read.

Finally, this 1979 $20 also has a “pink stamp of death” on it.  This one is legible though… It reads:
The Royal Bank of Canada
Cobourg, Ontario
01002 003

And a partial date 85 which I assume is 1985.

A quick search of the transit number reveals that it is
66 King St. West
Cobourg Ontario
K9A 2L9

The funny thing is that I was actually at this branch the last time I visited Cobourg!

Enjoy!

December 3rd find:

A closer look at the $2 bill I brought home yesterday has the name “Tim” and a phone number written on it.

Enjoy!

I went to the bank to make a cash withdrawal and I found this $5 bill with where's Willy written on it. I went on the website and entered the $5 bill serial number I found from the bank and it came from Roxton Pond, QC. It was nice finding a WW bill as I haven't found one in years.

Season’s Greetings to Everyone!

I’ve had an interesting few past days branch hopping while everyone is out shopping and the banks were empty.  I went to a branch that usually tells me I need to make an order if I want large numbers of notes and I soon thought I had entered walked into one branch and soon thought I had walked into ‘Bizzaro’ world.

The teller greeted me like an old friend, and immediately retrieved two $1 coins and a 50 cent coin and said she’d held on to them for me. She then asked me “what I was looking for collector wise”, and I replied having already asked and told no many times “well, if you happen to have any old paper notes in your mutilated note file, I would be interested in them”.  And she replied “Oh, you know I think we have some, but I can’t get them right now, why don’t I give you a call on Monday?”  And she took my number.

Already floored by this, I then handed her $3k in ratty old $5 notes and asked to do a ‘cash in cash out’ for other fives, and she happily did it.  This was a totally bizzarro experience for this branch and while I am happy for the offer of paper notes, I am fully expecting someone at the branch to put a stop on that prior to any getting into my possession, if I even get a call that any exist.  But it IS the thought that counts, and it kind of made my day … I did find the FYZ Repeater and INZ Radar in photo that day also.   :)

Story continues in next post ….

Continuing on ….

As we all know bank branches stock their ATMs over the holidays and I bit the bullet on bank fees and found an ATM that was dispensing IOB $5 notes within number ranges/combinations that had a high likelihood of hitting some Special Serial numbers, so of course I have been going back as often as I can.  The other day the notes were in the 2.222 range but most of the runs I got started around 345.

So, considering the large quantity of notes I withdraw, I missed the solid 2 note by a close margin and am attaching a photo of the ranges and where they stopped demonstrating the potential of what may be in the machines. I am keeping the 2221333 note as it is cool (sorry guys).  :D

I’ve taken about $8k in 5s from this machine recently, all in sequential small runs that seem to be in similar ranges that change in the 1000s periodically, and I have attached photos of the repeaters I have found, and a small ink smear found on one note.  I plan on going back a few times this week.  ;D

Hi all,

So the saga of the ATM SSN hunt continues …

Today I went to a different branch to deposit my rejects so I could go back to the ATM full of IOBs where I’ve been getting all the repeaters. But before I left that branch I decided to try get 200 from THEIR ATM to see what it was stocked with for the holidays, and to my surprise I got new prefix IOC notes in a 0.8 range with a repeater sitting right on top, and a second not far behind.

Although repeaters are nice, the 0.8 range doesn’t leave a ton of potential for radars so I went bank to the ATM that does and took out 800 notes (my daily limit) and lucked out on two IOB radars, and one repeater.  ;D Photo attached.  Going back to both tomorrow. Wonder what I may find??   :D

Also, if anyone is interested in purchasing any of the notes I post, simply DM me a reasonable offer.  Postage extra.

Cheers, B

During the month of December, I was alerted by my friendly Royal Bank staff in a branch in the Ottawa Valley that they took in as a deposit of an interesting US $1 banknote where they felt uncomfortable to put back into circulation, especially, for a Canadian who was travelling back to the US.  I purchased this note knowing that Dean would be happy to see it in this thread and possibly for his collection.

It appears that someone in the US had an issue and made quite the political statement.  It is unclear how long this banknote was in circulation with this statement.  On the front side of this banknote, it was issued as a 2006 series from the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, Texas under the letter K of Federal Reserve Banking system of regional banks.

This demonstrates the level of civil unrest south of the border.

During my search for old banknotes during the Christmas season, one bank branch gave a number of paper banknotes and I took them home.  Once home, I noticed that one of the Journey $20 banknotes had a bank stamp of 07259-219.  By doing an online search, the Financial Institution was identified as ATB FINANCIAL, Edmonton Oliver Village Branch at 11366 104 Avenue NW, Edmonton Alberta.  It is shame that bank stamp was incomplete as it would be interesting to find out when it was stamped.  Anyways, the note was found in the Ottawa Valley so it has travelled a distance.  The banknote has a prefix of AZT and it was issued in 2005.

People travel, banknotes travel!!

Enjoy the pictures, Whitenite
