October 2nd finds:
Coin hunting jackpot!

I went to my local bank to pick up some coins.  The teller offered me dimes and nickels so I took them all.

I was shocked at what I found…

In the dime rolls, there was $1.50 in US coins, a coin from the East Caribbean States and a Cuban coin.  But best of all, there were four silver coins, 1960, two 1968s, and…a first for me…a silver three pence coin from the UK dated 1937!

The nickel rolls also contained some surprises, including a 1950 King George, a very nice 1970 US nickel and, amazingly, a 1945 victory nickel!

You never know what’s hiding in these rolls…That’s what makes coin roll hunting so addictive.

October 6th finds:

The coin rolls keep paying out!

Yesterday, I got some more rolled coins.  The quarters contained nothing notable, and the dimes had very little aside from a few US coins in them.  The nickel rolls however surprised me.  Aside from a few nickel bullion coins, there was a 1929 King George V nickel in one of the rolls!  Too bad it was painted at one point…But it’s still a cool find.

October 10th finds:
US $2s and Canadian silver!

I went to one of my banks after work on Friday.  The teller was able to give me four journey $5s and 22 US $2s.
Included in the $2s were three red seal notes!

The teller also told me that a customer brought in $1000 in dimes.  Of course I bought them all and I was not disappointed!

I managed to pull $7.40 in US dimes, a bunch of 1968 nickel alloy dimes, some 1969s, and best of all, two silver dimes dated 1965 and 1967!

Nice find on those US Notes. I haven't seen any in the wild since the 1990s. If only their condition was better.
And I'll say it again, sometimes I think there are as many US $2s in Canada as there are in the US.

October 16th finds:
I managed to get a bunch of coins yesterday…

Aside from some US coinage, I was pleased to find three centennial rabbit nickels, not one, but two 1947 maple leaf dated nickels and a US nickel from 1951.

I got a few machine wrapped dime rolls that were all 2025 uncirculated coins.  I left them alone and didn’t bother to open them.

October 16th finds continued:

Today after work I returned to the same bank as yesterday and cleaned out the remaining rolls of coins.  This bunch was better, yielding a 1947 US nickel, a bunch of US coinage, two UK five pence coins, some commemoratives and best of all, one silver dime dated 1968!

The reality of coin roll hunting is that you have to go through a lot of coins to find something good but if you keep at it, eventually the finds will come your way.

November 1st pickups

I went to one of my banks this week and I was rewarded with a birds $1000 bill.
Last week, I attended the Oshawa coin show and I purchased two notes with handwritten messages on them.

It’s sad that these bills were inscribed and then kept for so long only to be sold off or deposited at the bank.
Sadly, this is what will happen to many of our collections after we die if proper care and attention is not taken to preserve and catalogue the notes in an orderly manner for your heirs.

Nov 3rd finds:
I picked up $250 in coins on Saturday.
Aside from the fair share of US coins, I was pleased to find 1967 and 1968 silver dimes!

November 8th finds:
I went to a couple of banks today and I picked up some rolls of coins.
I was pleased to find US coins and best of all, a silver dime dated 1956!
One of the tellers gave me 10 rolls of pennies and a nickel dollar.  I was also pleased to receive a nice 1975 dated quarter in change. 

A friend brought back a bunch of old Canadian paper money from the UK.  I was happy to take it at face value since he was going to deposit it into the bank!

It was a good day for collecting!

November 12th finds:

I went to the bank on November 12th.  The teller had no paper notes, but she did give me some coins.
Usually, quarter rolls give me nothing, but aside from the usual US coins, there was a 1968 50% silver quarter!

November 14th finds:
A huge Friday score!

Today, I went to three banks after work and they all had something cool.

Bank #1 gave me six US $2s.
Bank #2 gave me a bunch of journey $20s and a $50
Bank #3 gave me three $1000 notes—there were eight in total but the others were is such bad shape, I turned them down.
Additionally, Bank#3 gave me a bunch of $1s and $2s.

Along the way, I bought some coin rolls at each bank.

November 14th coin hunt update:

I searched through the coins I brought home today.  Here is what I found:

$2.00 in US dimes
Some 1968 nickel alloy dimes
A 1969 small date
1/2 Swiss Franc 2010
5 pence from the UK 1990
1/10 Balboa from Panama, 2018
And best of all, two silver dimes; a 50%er from 1968 and an 80%er from 1966!

The quarter rolls were a bust, but any time I can get silver at face value, I am happy.

November 15th finds:
A rainy day bank hunt pays off!

I went to three banks today.
Bank #1 gave me 90 rolls of pennies and two US $2 bills.
I asked the teller for old notes and coins and she gave me the stock answer “we don’t have any”.  Just then. My friend (also a collector) walks in to the bank.  He speaks to the Head Teller and this person was very much willing to sell me the pennies and US $2s!  You should have seen the look of embarrassment on the other teller’s face as she was caught in a lie.   
The other two banks had no paper money bit they were willing to sell me rolled coins.

Bank #2 said that I just missed some paper notes…They had shipped everything out on Thursday!☹️
The teller showed me photos of the bills they shipped for destruction:
There were three 1954 $1000s, Lawson Bouey signed, In AU condition,
An entire bundle of 100 mixed multicolour $20s…☹️
And a pile of 1973 $1s, and birds $2s…

I was disappointed, but you can’t save everything.  All in all, I was happy with the results; I found:

$4.25 in US coins
Four UK five pence pieces
Some 1968 and 1969 quarters and dimes
10 centavos from Ecuador
Two RCMP quarters
And best of all, two more silver dimes; 1960 and 1968!
